People, organizations recognized by commission

The Elgin Image Advisory Commission Thursday night announced the 12 winners for its Image Awards, which recognize individuals, businesses and organizations that have had a positive impact on the city.

The award recipients in the five categories were:

Advertisement

Individual/professional: Donna Askins, of the Elgin Community Garden Network, and Lucy Elliot Toya Randall.

Individual/volunteer: Albert Guevara of The Literacy Connection.

Project: Gail Borden Public Library's summer reading program, the Salvation Army's Golden Diners senior nutrition program and the YWCA of Elgin's Teen Reach program.

Organization/business: The Coalition of Elgin Religious Leaders, Domani Café and Elgin Community College's Alliance for College Readiness.

Citizenship/lifetime achievement: Ernie Broadnax, and Sue and Tom Rakow.

The ceremony took place at The Centre of Elgin. The commission received 35 nominations.
