Three candidates are vying for two 6-year seats on the Sugar Grove Library District board. Despite its pastoral setting, the library has been a hotbed of contention with raucous meetings that often have dissolved into shouting matches. Incumbent Robert Bergman seeks re-election, but this election creates an opportunity to build toward a more productive and responsive board environment. Newcomers Edward DeBartolo and Pat Graceffa offer that potential. Graceffa is known to almost everyone in Sugar Grove. As the former head of the Friends of the Library, she helped spearhead fundraisers that netted an average $10,000 a year for the library. DeBartolo has a strong marketing background that should help the library repair its image in the community. Graceffa and DeBartolo are endorsed.
