He was dismissed in 2011 because the board of commissioners determined he obstructed the investigation into the disappearance of Drew Peterson's fourth wife by hiding his father's guns.

Drew Peterson, once a Bolingbrook policeman, was sentenced in February to 38 years in prison for the killing of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. He is a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson.

In his opinion, Sheen wrote "it was in no way arbitrary or unreasonable for the board to conclude that Officer Peterson exhibited conduct incompatible with continued service as a police officer."
