Five candidates are vying for three spots on Oak Brook village board, and most of the candidates are well qualified to serve. The three who win will need to deal with the results of a nonbinding referendum on whether to sell public land at the Sports Core to Butler School District 53 for a new school. They'll also face continuing challenges of maintaining the business activity that enables the village to operate without property taxes, as well as longer-term issues such as declining — and aging — population.

We believe incumbent Mark Moy and newcomer Steven Young best demonstrate the temperament and experience to address these issues. For the last spot, both Donald Adler and John Baar have a wealth of experience on various community boards and committees, but Baar's emphasis on his desire to be inclusive and hear all sides of issues tips the scales in his favor. Moy, Young and Baar get our endorsement.
