Elgin firefighters and police are continuing to investigate a fire that significantly damaged Dino’s Foods on Summit Street late Wednesday night.

The Elgin Fire Department received a call about 11:04 p.m. reporting smoke inside the one-story commercial building at 465 Summit Street.

First responders arrived two minutes later, authorities said, and the fire was declared under control at 11:42 p.m., following assistance from five neighboring fire departments.

No injuries were reported, but a preliminary damage estimate to the building and its contents was $500,000.

The Elgin fire chief’s office will release a report on the cause of the blaze once an investigation is completed.
