Bawdy troupe at Vero Voce this weekend
Submitted by Vero Voce School of Performing Arts
Vero Voce Black Box Theatre will feature Troupe Strozzi as it presents two more performances of the popular “Commedia dell’par-tay! Best Buck for your Bang!” at 8 p.m. Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9 at the Vero Voce School of Performing Arts, 951 State Ave., Suite F, in St. Charles. Tickets are $15.
Troupe Strozzi, the “Garage Band of Theatre” is a local troupe of talented actors, singers and musicians who proudly perform bawdy, comedic satire. This show will debut new material as well as favorite bits. Troupe Strozzi is inspired by the style of “Commedia Dell’Arte” developed during the Renaissance. This genre developed stock characters: the cuckold, the cowardly mercenary, the shrew, the adulterer, the lovers and the clowns, to name a few. The scenarios played around a bawdy, and often vulgar, mockery of the institutions of power of the day: the Church, the nobles and the merchant class. See one show on Friday night and return on Saturday for a whole different show. For more information, visit www.troupestrozzi.org.
Vero Voce is a school of performing arts featuring private voice, piano and music lessons and a specialty in musical theater. Its 5,000-square-foot facility includes multiple studios, classrooms, and the black box theater.
