Five Des Plaines firefighters join AFFI Honor Guard

Five Des Plaines Firefighters, Brian Carmicheal, Matt Matzl, Mark Pawlyk, Robert Prieto and Shawn Quigel, were recently inducted into the Honor Guard of the Associated Firefighters of Illinois.

The purpose of the Honor Guard is to promote the fire service as a whole and to provide dignified, honorable services for fallen firefighters through the organization of, and participation in, funeral and memorial services and during other ceremonial occasions. The newest Honor Guard members join 11 other Des Plaines Firefighters who are Honor Guard members.

Nearly 800 individuals attended the AFFI’s 21st annual Honor Guard Convention held Saturday evening, Feb. 9, at the Renaissance Hotel & Convention Center, in Schaumburg.
