Sheriff, his bullies should be punished

Kudos to DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin for looking into the situation that has occurred between Sheriff Zaruba and some of his officers and Susan Lakics. As a taxpayer living in unincorporated DuPage County for over 30 years I think that chairman Cronin and the county board should not only be looking to Zaruba’s department for payment of the $1 million-plus, but also go a step further and start an investigation into the charges made.

Bullying is wrong no matter who is involved, and for officers sworn to uphold the law they have violated everything that they are supposed to stand for in this ongoing case, and the people involved in this bullying should be punished.

Sheriff Zaruba deserves to be removed from his office, since he has been the chief of this bullying ring, and our taxes have and continue to pay his salary. I would also like to applaud Susan Lakics for taking the high road and taking her case to a judge, and getting retribution within the means of the law. It could not have been easy to control herself in such a professional manner throughout all of the years she was suffering this high handed bullying not only from her boss, but from other sworn officers.

My thanks to all of the officers and staff who stood up to testify in her behalf. As adults we tell our children that bullying cannot be tolerated, it certainly cannot be tolerated by adults that are not only sworn to uphold the law but receive their salary from the population that they serve. Thanks also to all of the professional men and woman who serve within the law and risk their lives protecting us.
