Car crashes into Streamwood home’s basement

Geraldine Gibb had just come upstairs from the basement of her Streamwood home about 2 p.m. Saturday when she heard an incredible noise.
A Chevy Monte Carlo, driven by an unidentified male, had crashed through the cinder block wall of her single-family raised ranch home in the 900 block of Meadow Lane and landed entirely in her basement.
Gibb was too shaken up to talk about the accident Saturday evening, but her son Dean Cichon was able to provide some details.
"The car came westbound on Meadow Lane at a very high rate of speed and swerved to the left before it cut back right, across the neighbors lawn and into my mom's house," Cichon said. "The car rested fully in the basement, and I understand no one was seriously hurt. But my mom is really shaken up by it."
The 6-by-8-foot hole has since been boarded up and the home deemed structurally sound by a village inspector, thanks to the car not striking a corner or any flooring joists.
Acting Streamwood Batallion Chief Tim McCoy said the driver of the car had a scrape on his head and was transported to St. Alexis Hospital for observation.
"It was quite a mess over there," McCoy said. "We had to take a tree down so a team of three wreckers could get in there at the right angle and remove the car without further damaging the home and also being careful not to rip the fuel tank off the car."
Streamwood police said they were not able to provide any information Saturday.
