Sugar Grove man killed in Batavia crash

A 61-year-old Sugar Grove man was killed in a two-car crash that shut down Randall Road in Batavia Friday night.

Crews were dispatched at 6:22 p.m. to the intersection of Randall Road and McKee Street, according to Lt. Scott Hogan of the Batavia Fire Department.

Emergency crews worked to extricate the driver of one of the vehicles from the wreck. A total of three people were involved in the crash — only one of whom had to be extricated, authorities said.

David Schele was transported to Delnor Hospital in Geneva where he was pronounced dead due to injuries sustained in the crash, authorities said.

The two occupants of the other vehicle were treated and released at the scene, police said.

One of the two cars was totaled and had to be towed away. The intersection was still closed late Friday night.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
