A mechanic was injured Friday afternoon when a truck he was fixing on the side of the road in Elk Grove Village rolled over his leg, authorities said.

A truck driver had called a 24-hour truck repair service to fix a brake problem near the intersection of Touhy Avenue and Higgins Road, according to Lt. Michael Sharp of the Elk Grove Village Fire Department.

As the mechanic was working on the brakes about 5:15 p.m., he asked the driver to move the truck forward — but it went too far and ran over the man's leg, Sharp said.

"He asked (him) to move it up. I guess (he) moved it too fast," Sharp said. "It rolled over his leg, then moved it back over his leg. He said, 'Get it off of me, get it off of me.'"

Paramedics transported the man to the hospital. He was reported to have multiple leg injuries, Sharp said.
