Senior tax help in Elk Grove Village

Seniors age 60 and over, and those with low to moderate incomes, may sign up at the Sheila Ray Adult Center to have their 2012 federal and state income tax returns prepared for free.

Tax returns are prepared on Wednesdays and Fridays through April 12. The appointment times are 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. A photo ID is required at the time of your appointment.

The volunteers for the IRS-AARP Tax-Aide Service are available to assist you with your return. Each of the volunteer preparers is trained, tested, and certified annually by the IRS to participate in this program, including the commitment to protect private information. Federal form 1040s with schedules for wages, interest, dividends, pensions, social security, itemized deductions, and capital gains can be prepared. In addition, Schedules C and SE for persons with self-employment and expenses under $5,000 can be handled. The Tax-Aide service is not certified to prepare complicated returns.

For information and to schedule an appointment call (847) 364-7224. The Elk Grove Park District, Sheila Ray Adult Center is located at 225 E. Elk Grove Blvd., in Elk Grove Village.
