The village's professional baseball team will seek to fill the role of its fan-friendly mascot — a giant male prairie chicken — through an audition at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16.

Candidates should be enthusiastic, energetic and have the endurance to make it through all 2013 home games at Boomers Stadium, as well as additional promotional and charitable appearances.

The winning performer will have demonstrated their ability to dance, run, high-five and hug fans, interact with children and sign autographs — all while encased in full costume for hours at a stretch.

Because of the restrictions of the costume, potential prairie chickens should be between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet 2 inches tall and of average build.

The auditions at Boomers Stadium, 1999 S. Springinsguth Road in Schaumburg, will consist of a panel interview and a one-minute song and dance routine of the candidate's choosing. All candidates must provide their own music and come dressed in athletic attire.

The Boomers' second season will begin Thursday, May 16, and the regular season runs through Labor Day weekend.

Candidates should check out the full job description at boomersbaseball.com, fill out the questionnaire there and submit it in advance to Sara Romano at sromano@boomersbaseball.com.
