Police investigate suspicious encounter in Woodridge

Police are investigating a suspicious encounter that occurred Thursday morning between a student and a young man near a Woodridge School District 68 school.

A fifth-grader reported that she was approached by a white, possibly Hispanic, man in his mid-20s with short dark hair around 7 a.m. while walking to school on the 7800 block of Woodridge Drive, according to police.

The man was driving a dark blue, newer model minivan and wearing a light and dark gray knit jacket with dark pants. He was accompanied by a white female passenger in her early 20s with long, dark hair.

The man exited the vehicle and asked the girl, “Hey, you coming with us?”

The student continued to school and reported what happened. All District 68 schools and parents are being notified of the encounter.

Extra patrols will be in the areas of the schools.
