Fox Valley hosts Winterall Scout competition

Submitted by Fox Valley District, Boy Scouts of America

The 16th annual Fox Valley District Winterall and Klondike Derby will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, St. Charles. Winterall is an outdoor competition for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, designed to promote teamwork and scouting skills. Lunch is included in the price.

Fox Valley Scout Leaders can register at threefirescouncil.org at FV Winterall & Klondike Derby. The $10 per person Early Bird fee ends Thursday afternoon. Day of event price is $15 per person. Bring exact change or a check.

Parking has changed at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve. Troops camping Friday night can park in the lower lot by the pavilion and volunteers/leaders must come before 8 a.m. Saturday to park in the lot near the pavilion. The lot will be closed to traffic at 8 a.m. and opened after the event. Also, do not drive on the grass.

Participants will be directed to park by the silo first and then the newly built Nature Center. They have also been given permission from Riverside Community Church on Crane Road to use their lot. Walk the Great Western Trail along Randall if using the church lot. They do not have a shuttle service this year.

Friday morning set up begins at 9 a.m. by the pavilion. It has also been a Winterall tradition for volunteers to meet at the Colonial Café, off Randall Road, north of Prairie Street, for breakfast at 8 a.m. Lunch on Friday will be provided at the pavilion. Gray hats with white lettering will go to all volunteers. They will also be loading the trailer with all of the equipment that is stored in the Troop 46 pavilion on that Thursday night at 7 p.m. so that it’s ready to go Friday morning. If you can help with that, many hands make light work.
