A judge has granted an Oak Brook company temporary relief from a state requirement that its employee health insurance plan covers birth control.

DuPage County Circuit Court Judge Terence Sheen granted a temporary restraining order Tuesday in favor of Triune Health Group.

The Thomas More Society, a nonprofit law firm, says it's the first state court ruling that says laws protecting religious freedom pre-empt the state's contraception mandate for health insurance.

Earlier this month, the same company won temporary relief in federal court from a federal contraception mandate.

Company owners Christopher and Mary Anne Yep say government requirements for contraceptive coverage for women violate their Roman Catholic beliefs.

Mandatory coverage for birth control has been among the most controversial parts of President Barack Obama's health care law.
