Steve Holland is running as a write-in candidate for the 7th Ward in Batavia in April.
Holland filed his notice to run with the city clerk Wednesday.
If nobody else runs, Holland would take the post currently held by Alderman Dawn Tenuta. She is not seeking re-election, and nobody filed petitions to be placed on the ballot.
People have until Feb. 7 to file a declaration to be a write-in candidate.
Holland lives on Bird Lane.
If nobody ran, Mayor Jeff Schielke would have appointed someone to the vacancy, with the consent of the City Council. His practice is to solicit applications and have council members interview applicants in an open meeting.
Feb. 7 is the last day people can file an intention to run as a write-in candidate in the April 9 election.
