Elgin

• Carice B. Reed, 21, of the 200 block of West 108th Street in Chicago, was arrested Thursday in Elgin and charged with misdemeanor possession of between 2.5 and 10 grams of cannabis, according to court documents. His bail was set at $3,000. He is next due in Kane County court Jan. 17.

Carpentersville

• Candis A. Johnson, 26, of the 0-99 block of Oxford Road in Carpentersville, was arrested Thursday and charged with misdemeanor endangering the health of a child and for contributing to the neglect of a child, police said. Johnson is accused of not letting her 8-year-old daughter inside their apartment and telling her to walk outside in the rain about 9 p.m., even though the apartment complex is known for violent crimes and drug activity, according to court records. Johnson's bail was set at $7,500, which means she needs to post $750 to get out of jail while her case is pending. She is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 25 at the Elgin branch court. If found guilty of one of the charges, she could spend up to a year in prison.

Kane County

• Someone ripped a wooden mailbox from its post on the 18N500 block of Field Court near West Dundee between 10 p.m. Jan. 3 and 8:30 a.m. Jan. 4, causing $100 damage, police said.
