Where has the shame gone?

There used to be a time when getting an unmarried woman pregnant was a scandalously disrupting event that negatively affected both parties involved and their respective families for years to come. Not so anymore.

A baby out of wedlock was the lead story for Jan. 1, 2013. Apparently, shame never occurred to Kanye West, while relating the news on stage in front of thousands, and Kim Kardashian, revealing on her website about the “good news.” Hey! We’re not married and having a baby! Congratulations to us!

The fans are happy. The so called “couple” is happy. And the story in the paper said that they wished their parents were still alive so that they too could be happy.

Obviously, sex outside of marriage is no big deal and hasn’t been for some time. And now openly talking about having a child without being married, shamelessly and unblushingly, is also no big deal. There used to be a derogatory name for that kind of child, but that doesn’t matter any more either, apparently.

Where has the shame gone? And what does this story tell the kids?
