text size: AAA

A semitrailer truck driver was killed at a Bensenville freight and distribution center Monday, and the federal agency in charge of workplace safety has opened an investigation into the death.

Martin Sum, 57, of Worth, was pinned between his truck and another object at Vitran Express, 651 Thorndale Ave., in Bensenville.

Sum was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, where he was pronounced dead at 8:19 p.m. Monday.

The Cook County medical examiner's office ruled the death an accident.

The Occupational Safety and Heath Administration, charged with maintaining workplace safety, is investigating.

"It's too early in the investigation for us to know exactly what happened," said Scott Allen, an OSHA spokesman.
