Higher taxes result of legislative follies

The editorial states: “ ...(I)s it fair that thousands of rank-and-file teachers and state employees will have to shoulder a burden in the resolution of this crisis.” And: “Fair or not ... taxpayers undoubtedly will have to pay more in whatever reform ultimately is enacted.”

As both an Illinois taxpayer and a retired state employee (with “limited disposable income”) I am also seething. Contrary to the provisions of the Illinois Constitution that my “benefits” may not be “diminished or impaired,” not only will they be reduced, I will be forced to pay higher taxes from these reduced benefits in order to save the state from the follies of our incompetent, negligent and mostly irrelevant legislature, legislative leaders and governors over, at least, the past 40 years.
