Des Plaines recycles holiday lights

The Des Plaines public works department will collect holiday trees for disposal through Tuesday, Jan. 8, weather permitting. Bare holiday trees must be at the curb before 7 a.m. ARC Disposal & Recycling/Republic Services will collect remaining trees the following week. For details, call (847) 981-0091. The public works department will host a free holiday light recycling event during January and February. Lights that will be accepted include C7 and C9 lights, rope lights, mini-lights, LED lights, and extension cords. Residents should bring items between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to the public works facility or city hall, 1420 Miner St. Any light strands connected to wreaths, garland or other material will not be accepted. There is no limit to the amount of lights accepted at public works. Only two 25-foot strands or equivalent length will be accepted at city hall. The lights will be recycled for the copper and plastic materials.
