Volunteers sought for World Book Night in Waukegan

The Waukegan Public Library is seeking volunteers to distribute free books in as part of its participation in World Book Night an annual event dedicated to spreading the love of reading, person to person. Each year on April 23, tens of thousands of people go out into their communities and give half a million free World Book Night paperbacks to light and non-readers. Last year, 25,000 volunteers worked in 5,800 communities across the country, many without means or access to printed books. Volunteer book givers are a crucial part of this international effort. The Waukegan Public Library will participate for the second consecutive year as a site where book givers can pick up their shipment of books. Individuals interested in donating their time to distribute free books in Waukegan can get more information and apply at worldbooknight.org. The deadline to apply is Jan. 23.
