Carol Stream's Angela Cichosz, for example, used a macro lens to create an abstract photograph of a large blown-glass paperweight with colors that simply pop off the page.

Lena Conway of Naperville, meanwhile, focused her efforts on a flower to provide some bright color during a time of year when the weather can be more than a little gloomy.

Walter Lesus of Sandwich says he was on a lunchtime walk at Warrenville Grove Forest Preserve near Warrenville when he took his picture that reflects the idyllic tranquillity of the preserve.

If you'd like to submit a photo of your own for consideration, (maybe there's a new camera coming your way this holiday season) email it in .jpg format with at least 300 dpi resolution to ssanders@dailyherald.com.

Include your name, address and phone number, plus a description of where you took the photo and the occasion.
