During this most horrific time of indescribable violence and heartbreak in Newtown, Conn., my prayers are with that community and our country as we try to cope with and understand what transpired at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The moving vigil broadcast on Dec. 16 was one of healing and hope. I hope all, especially the nonbelievers among us, had the opportunity to listen to the poignant, moving, faith based eulogies from the various religious leaders of that community as well as President Obama's reflection -- and that they may take from it the love, peace and inspiration based on the love of God.

Without the meaningful expressions from the clergy of Newtown there would not have been a gathering, the inspirational prayers, songs and readings of those from the Newton religious community provided healing love and direction to those who lost children, grandchildren, siblings, cousins, spouses, parents, aunts, uncles, friends and neighbors. I don't know how you provide comfort to those who lose a loved one, especially a child; therefore, I pray that all may come to realize and understand the healing love of God. May they see and feel the love that faith can provide. Without our ability to love one another as God loves us, we are a world of infinite sadness, confusion and destruction.
