The Macy's store at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg was evacuated briefly Thursday morning due to a water flow alarm, according to a fire department official.

The store was evacuated about 10:10 a.m. A Daily Herald staff reporter at the scene said flashing lights went off and a public announcement asked shoppers to leave immediately.

Woodfield General Manager Marc Strich said the evacuation was confined to Macy's. Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said it was "simply a fire alarm" that was reset by the fire department.

Shoppers were allowed back into the store within 20 minutes.
