Lombard Public Works available 24 hours for residents with sewer back-ups

LOMBARD, Illinois— The Lombard Public Works Department reminds residents to contact the department should you experience a sewer back-up in your home. Public Works has a staff member on-call 24 hours per day, seven days a week to assist residents with situations that require immediate attention.

The Public Works Department can be reached at (630) 620-5740 or, if calling after normal working hours, residents can call the Lombard Police Department's non-emergency line at (630) 873-4400.

After the initial call, a Public Works' staff member will contact the resident to determine if the problem is in the main sewer line or in the resident's sewer service. If there is no problem in the main sewer line, the sewer service must be cleaned out. The Village can arrange for rodding services or the resident can call a plumber. A Village employee must witness the rodding if the resident calls the plumber.

If the blockage is due to tree roots or a collapsed tile and the blockage is located within the Village right-of-way, any repairs, if necessary will be performed by a Public Works crew and restoration will follow.

If the blockage is on private property, the homeowner can decide whether or not to repair the blockage. A permit is needed from the Building Department for any repairs on private property. The Building Department can be reached at (630) 620-5750.
