text size: AAA

Palatine firefighters were able to keep a fire Monday morning in an unincorporated apartment building contained to just one unit.

Passers-by reported the blaze at 11:01 a.m. in a three-story, six-unit building on the 1200 block of Long Valley Drive. The fire, located in a first-floor unit, was under control by 11:17 a.m.

Firefighters assisted one resident down from the third floor, and three people were treated at the scene for possible smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported. The apartment's occupants were not home at the time. That apartment was uninhabitable, but residents were able to return to the other units within the building.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No damage estimate was available.
