Rotary Club and AH Cub Scout Pack 169 team up to help at Christmas

otary Club of Mount Prospect/Arlington Heights and AH Cub Scout Pack 169 wanted to work on something together at Christmas time to see what kind of impact they could make. We decided together to collect funds and donate to the Wheeling Township adopt-a-family program. The Rotary contributed money to the effort and the boys of AH Cub Scout Pack 169 were asked to do some extra chores or work to earn money on their own to support the adopt-a-family program. The Pack pledged to match any contributions that these boys could earn. We were hoping to be able to raise enough to support two families in the program. The boys did such an amazing job earning money that with the funds that the Rotary contributed, we had exceeded the amount that adopt-a-family had allowed. Therefore, we decided to invest the rest of the money in the Arlington Heights Junior Woman's Club wish tree program. We were able to get a handful of these, but the community of Arlington Heights has been so generous that there were not any more wish tree receipients left. As a group, we decided the remaining funds would go to the Wheeling Township food pantry. We never thought we would receive so many contributions, let alone have a hard time finding programs to give it to. This serves as a reminder of how generous and kind hearted people can be, especially this time of year. Each boy scout learned a tremedous amount about giving and the true meaning of Christmas with this project and we hope to do it again next year with as much success. We finished our project by getting together with individuals from the Rotary and wrapping all the presents and making cards. It was a very enjoyable experience for everyone.
