Des Plaines mayor recovering after knee surgery

Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan is undergoing rehabilitation after having knee replacement surgery Friday at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, a city spokeswoman said.

Moylan is expected to resign his mayoral post by the month’s end. Moylan has not yet submitted his letter of resignation, said his secretary Donna Catlett.

There is no item on the city council’s meeting agenda for Monday, Dec. 17, to appoint an interim mayor to finish out Moylan’s term, which ends after the April 9 consolidated municipal election. That action likely will be taken at the Jan. 7 council meeting, Catlett said.

Moylan will be sworn in as state representative of the 55th House District on Jan. 9.
