Firefighters from Hoffman Estates and assisting agencies battled an early morning blaze Monday that left an estimated $100,000 in damage to a single-family home.

No one was home at the time of the fire, the cause of which remains under investigation. It's unknown whether the house had working smoke detectors, but it was not equipped with a fire sprinkler system, authorities said.
