Des Plaines man held without bail in Chicago murder

A Des Plaines man is set to appear in court Tuesday on a first-degree murder charge stemming from a fatal shooting outside a Chicago tavern in July, officials said.

David P. Marshall, 38, of the 500 block of West Touhy Avenue, was arrested Thursday in connection with the slaying of Pablo Fernandez, Chicago police records indicate.

According to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office, Fernandez, 41, of Cicero, and Marshall got into a fight at a bar in the 4200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue on July 21.

The two continued their fight outside the Northwest side tavern about 1:45 a.m. as a crowd gathered, authorities say. Marshall fell to the ground, took out a handgun and fired it four times before running away from the scene, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

Fernandez started walking to a neighboring gas station for help, but collapsed. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Marshall was arrested last week after making a third party admission of guilt to someone else and witnesses identified him in the crime, according to police and court records.

He will appear at in a preliminary hearing at noon Tuesday at the Leighton Criminal Court Building at 26th Street and California Avenue in Chicago.
