Island Lake businesses raising money for meals as part of Operation Milk Jug

Island Lake businesses continue to collect cash donations to buy holiday meals for needy local families through the Operation Milk Jug campaign.

Before Thanksgiving, village officials and employees gathered to initiate Mission: Turkey Drop, in which volunteers put together and delivered large boxes filled to the brim with complete turkey dinners for Island Lake families that needed a little help this year.

Proceeds gathered from Operation Milk Jug were used to purchase the food. Local businesses collect spare change in one-gallon jugs as part of the effort.

Collections will continue through December. The process will be repeated to provide assistance to families at Christmas.
