• Gerardo Lopez, 18, of the 400 block of Addison Street, was arrested at about 7 p.m. Wednesday after a traffic stop at Division Street and Hilton Place after police got a tip that Lopez would have a firearm in the area of Gifford Park, according to a police report. Lopez was a passenger in a vehicle that disobeyed a stop sign and did not have a front license plate, police said. Lopez was charged with possession of a firearm by a gang member, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, possession of a firearm without a FOID card, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance and possession of under 10 grams of cannabis, police said. He appeared Thursday in bond court and his bail was set at $75,000. His next court date is Dec. 21.

• Terry Mitchell, 37, of the 400 block of North Commonwealth Avenue, was charged Tuesday with theft of under $500 after he asked someone to sell a stolen laptop to a pawnshop in Elgin, according to a police report. The laptop had been reported stolen from a vehicle Nov. 16.
