Des Plaines prepares for Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration

Des Plaines police will be closing Central Road at Des Plaines River Road to vehicular traffic starting at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, until 6 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, for the Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration at Maryville Academy. Central Road also will be closed at East River Road to westbound traffic. Central Road at Wolf Road will be closed to eastbound traffic.

All of the intersections will be manned with officers, squads, and barricades. Central Road again will be closed at those same intersections from about 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Police warn River Road traffic in both directions is expected to be backed up continually during this time.

The Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration begins at about 4 p.m. Tuesday and ends with the closing Mass at 8 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a short fireworks display on the north end of the Maryville campus at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Roughly 100,000 people are expected to attend the celebration.
