Elk Grove Lions announce Peace Poster Contest winner

Olivia Cichowals of Mount Prospect is this year’s winner of the Elk Grove Village Lions International Peace Poster Contest. The contest is an opportunity for youth to stress the importance of peace, tolerance and international understanding.

Cichowals, a sixth-grade student at Holmes Jr. High School, was among the 27 students who participated in the contest. Cichowals’ poster is among the more than 375,000 entries submitted worldwide in the 25th annual Lions International contest.

Local entries were judged by Lion Katie Dolan Baumer, Lion Marilyn Deasy and Lion Barb Lathinen. Cichowals will be recognized at the Feb. 20, monthly Elk Grove Village Lions Club dinner, at the Black Steer restaurant.

Cichowals believes, “Peace means everyone coming together and that means world peace.”

One grand prize winner and 23 merit award winners will be selected internationally.

“Our club is cheering for Olivia Cichowals,” said Lions President Mike Baumer. “We hope that Olivia’s vision will ultimately be shared with others around the world.”
