Firefighter suffers minor injury in Deer Park blaze

A Lake Zurich firefighter suffered a minor injury while putting out a fire that broke out in the basement of a Deer Park home Sunday morning.

The injured firefighter did not require transport to a hospital after being hurt putting out the blaze in the 21400 block of Sumac Court, officials said. Two residents of the home were checked on the scene by paramedics and released.

Firefighters were called to the home at 9:06 a.m. when one of the two residents reported smelling smoke. Crews arriving at 9:15 a.m. reported seeing smoke escaping from the front door.

Upon entering the lower level, a firefighter reported that a sectional couch was on fire.

The cause of the fire, which was extinguished in about 15 minutes, has not yet been determined, fire officials said. A cost estimate of the damage was not available.

The Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department was assisted by the Barrington, Buffalo Grove,

Cary, Countryside, Deerfield, Fox River Grove, Lake Villa, Libertyville, Long Grove, Nunda,

Wauconda and Wheeling fire departments.
