Lack of civility stems from lack of morals
Recently, a Fence Post letter stated: “Civility must be a part of (political) campaigns.” Judging by the TV and radio election ads we’ve seen and heard, this is not the case. But lack of civility in our society is part of a much larger problem that includes lack of ethical (moral) behavior, resorting to violence to deal with a situation and a dismissal of moral values as irrelevant.
Efforts over the past 40-plus years involving the idea or ideology of the separation of church and state has resulted in a separation of God from society. “Let your conscience be your guide” has been replaced by “If it feels good, do it!”
God’s gift of conscience needs to be strengthened and nourished by the application of universal truths taught by the world’s major religions rather than drowned out by the pursuit of pleasure, possessions and power.
