Beams installed at Great Western Trail bridge as progress continues

LOMBARD, Illinois—Progress on the Great Western Trail bridge project continues as the bridge beams were installed over St. Charles Road on October 26 and for the bridge over Grace Street on October 29.

Currently the contractor is forming the deck at St. Charles Road. Both bridge decks will be installed in the next few weeks.

The south abutment for the bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad is almost finished and work on the north abutment has started.

The contractor hopes to have all three bridges completed before the end of the year if weather cooperates, according to Paul Kuehnlenz, Civil Engineer with the Village of Lombard and project manager.

The remainder of the trail project will be finished in the spring.
