BG’s redevelopment idea bad all around
As longtime residents (31 years) of Buffalo Grove, we adamantly oppose the board’s proposed development on the golf course and the recent decision to buy the Beth Am property.
Since we live in the Cambridge homes in Cook County, not overlooking the area, we simply consider the golf course project a bad economic decision.
Given the excess and growing vacant retail space in the area and current state of the residential real estate market, it seems that the chances of making this project an economic success are lukewarm at best. As taxpayers who have seen our real estate tax bills significantly increase in recent years, we do not want the village to take these kind of risks.
Additionally, we strongly disagree with the recent decision to buy the Beth Am property for use as a performing arts center. We believe that there were better options be it status quo or using the current schools or facilities in the area. As with the proposed development on the golf course, ultimately we believe that our taxes will go up as a result of this decision.
Finally, we have discussed these issues with numerous friends and neighbors in Buffalo Grove and have yet to find anyone who agrees with either of these projects. What are they thinking?
