A dog that was attacked by a coyote in Wheaton Tuesday night, was expected to make a full recovery, police said.

According to a news release, the attack occurred at 9:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of Brighton Drive. It involved a coyote jumping over a 6-foot tall fence and grabbing the dog.

At that point, the dog's owner yelled and ran toward the coyote, dropped the dog and jumped back over the fence, police said.

The dog was later rushed to an emergency veterinarian.

There was no information available on the dog's breed, size or age. Wheaton officials remind residents to use the city's website to report coyote sightings and to learn more about coyotes.
