Palatine school run to national Lutheran cross country title

Weather conditions along Lake Michigan were perfect on Saturday, Oct. 20, as the boys and girls cross country teams from Immanuel Lutheran School, in Palatine, traveled to Concordia University-Wisconsin, in Mequon, Wis., to participate in the third annual National Lutheran Cross Country Championships.

The boys team ran away with the team title, winning its third consecutive national title, while the Lady Bobcats finished national runner-up.

“It was exciting to return both of our teams to the national championships this year,” said Ken Heinrich, head coach for both teams. “Seeing our boys repeat as national champions and the girls placing second was thrilling.”

With a flat and fast two-mile course along the shores of Lake Michigan, the Immanuel boys team scored 28 points in the final team standings, while the Lady Bobcats posted a team score of 47 points. As a result, a tiebreaker was implemented and each schools’ sixth runners’ place was factored in to determine the girls championship team.
