Payne to hold skills clinic

Former area high school and college basketball coach Kent Payne will be holding a Hard Drilling Basketball Skills Session on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Elgin Community College.

The clinic is open to boys and girls ages 9 through eighth grade. Among the topics covered will be skill development, shooting drills and mechanics training, ballhandling and dribbling, developing moves off dribbles and screens, making effective decisions, finishing around the rim, footwork and more.

The clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and the cost is $30, which includes a complimentary skills DVD. Registration is at the door.

St. Edward boys bowling: The St. Edward boys bowling program will hold a fundraiser at Elgin Lanes on Saturday, Oct. 27. Registration is at 12:30 p.m. and bowling starts at 1 p.m. The cost is $10 for two games and shoes. Funds raised will go to benefit the St. Edward boys bowling program. ECC softball camps: Elgin Community College will host two winter softball camps at the ECC Events Center for players ages 6-14. The current Spartan softball players and coaches will provide instruction in catching, throwing, fielding, pitching, hitting and sliding. The cost for each session is $60 and campers will receive a free T-shirt. The first camp will be Dec. 2 from noon to 5 p.m. and will cover defensive skills and hitting. Register by Nov. 18 to save $10. The second camp will be Jan. 6, 2013 from noon to 4 p.m. and will cover pitching and hitting. Register before Dec. 23 to save $10.
