Teller threatened with death in failed Des Plaines bank robbery

A robber threatened to kill a teller at a Des Plaines bank Sunday, but in the end left without any money, police said.

A man, between 30 and 35 years of age, 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds, demanded money at TCF Bank in Jewel-Osco, 819 S. Elmhurst Road, around 11:35 a.m. Oct. 14, according to a police report.

While the robber didn’t display a weapon, he reportedly told the male teller, “Give me all your money or I’ll blow your head off.”

The shocked teller said “Huh?” The robber then pointed to a notepad that he was carrying. Written on the pad was: “Give me all your money and no dye pack.”

The teller, still confused, reached for the notepad, but the robber hugged the pad close to himself, backed away and left through the south exit doors, police said.
