By Daily Herald Staff Report

Palatine firefighters extinguished a fire early Saturday that left a townhouse near Dundee and Hicks roads uninhabitable, department officials reported.

When firefighters arrived at the seven-unit townhouse building in the 1400 block of North Waterbury Circle, they saw flames on the balcony of the second-floor home.

After forcing their way into the smoke-filled unit, firefighters found fire in the walls and floor. The blaze was under control in less than 30 minutes.

The resident was away from home when the fire started and stayed with family members since the unit is uninhabitable. The fire did not spread to the other units, and no one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
