Police: Lake in the Hills student at U of I killed in hit-and-run

A Lake in the Hills man attending the University of Illinois died Saturday morning after police say he was struck by a hit-and-run driver.

Anthony G. Pauls, 20, was hit by a vehicle around 11:50 p.m. Friday on the 200 block of West University Avenue near an intersection, according to a press release from the Urbana Police Department. The driver then fled the scene, the release said.

Pauls was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 7:54 a.m. Saturday.

Police have arrested 20-year-old Albert Flemings in connection with the accident after finding his vehicle. Police said the car sustained heavy damage.

Fleming has been charge with driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death, along with other traffic charges, the release said. He is being held at the Champaign County Satellite Jail.
