Returning veterans are heroes

Returning veterans are heroes

An apology to all our American veterans and their families for the misinformed comments in the Sept. 29 Fence Post: “But everyone who dies in the military on foreign soil is not a hero.” Shameful.

Every American veteran who enters service to our country does so with an oath stating that in doing so, they may lose their lives. They are all heroes for stepping up to the plate with that vow.

Sincere appreciation to each and every one of them for fighting for that author’s right to free speech, no matter how misguided the comments were.

And, no return home celebration for any of our military veterans is “over the top.”

It is not necessary to “rethink what constitutes a hero.” We know who they are.
