Lombard Fire Department trains to save their own

LOMBARD, Illinois—Live fire training was recently conducted at Lombard Fire Station Two (2020 South Highland Avenue) for the Lombard Fire Department, Villa Park Fire Department, Addison Fire Protection District, Wood Dale Fire Department and Hanover Park Fire Department.

The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Division 12 has adopted a new policy for Command Officers to operate in a more efficient way which expedites the rescue of a downed firefighter, according to Lombard Fire Chief Paul DiRienzo.

“This training specifically focuses on the Command level all the way to the task level,” DiRienzo pointed out.

The mock rescue training focused on MAYDAY procedures so that all area fire departments are in agreement on what to do at an actual emergency incident.

“We were very happy to host this event for other departments,” stated Battalion Chief Marty Coomes, Lombard's Training Coordinator. “I look forward to planning additional training; you can never have enough,” he added.
