Members of the McHenry County sheriff's SWAT team shot a man with bean bag rounds Saturday afternoon after the man barricaded himself in a room and brandished a knife, according to police.
Officers responded to the 2900 block of Northwest Road in Marengo Township just after noon Saturday to serve a domestic battery warrant on Edward P. Bolen at his address. McHenry County sheriff's deputies saw Bolen in side the residence and made contact with him and a roommate, according to police.
Bolen pointed a handgun at deputies when they entered his residence, and deputies fired at Bolen. Police said the officers missed and Bolen retreated to a room in the basement where he barricaded himself.
At that point, the McHenry County sheriff's SWAT team was called to the scene, and when SWAT team members entered the room, Bolen brandished a knife at them, according to police.
Bolen was struck twice with bean bag round and was taken into custody, police said.
Marengo firefighters transported Bolten to Woodstock Memorial Hospital and he was released and arrested.
Illinois State Police are investigating the shooting.
Bolen was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm without a license and possession ammunition without a license.
