Fire badly damages Hoffman Estates house

A fire badly damaged a single-family home Saturday morning on Trailside Court in Hoffman Estates.

Paramedics transported one of the homeowners to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening, Fire Lt. Paul Bilodeau said. Another person escaped unharmed before the first engine arrived.

When crews got to the scene at 10:34 a.m., just two minutes after receiving the call, they found fire on the second floor and in the entire attic.

Though the majority of the blaze was quickly extinguished, it took more than two hours to completely put out the fire due to a large amount of personal belongings and plywood in the attic.

Neighbors reported hearing one of two explosions several minutes earlier, but Bilodeau wasn’t aware of them and said the cause remains under investigation.

He estimated the fire caused $600,000 in damage including contents. The house, which had working smoke detectors, is uninhabitable.

Assisting Hoffman Estates were crews from Bartlett, East Dundee, Elgin, Elk Grove Village, Elk Grove Township, Hanover Park, Palatine, Palatine Rural, Prospect Heights, Schaumburg and Streamwood.
